Trapist monk chapel

Winter 2012

Team : Haya Alnibari

Trapist Monk Chapel is located in the outskirts of the city of Toronto, where one experiences the journey of finding oneself. The idea was inspired by the natural elements on the site such as the topography and surrounding details of the trees. The architecture offers a place to quiet down and compose oneself through undergoing a series of different experiences in the intersecting paths. It provides spatial interest and a sense of continuity with stairs, ramps and walls. The complex consist of a chapel and 3 pavilions. The chapel has a steep roof to harmonize with surrounded nature to become the symbolic center of the neighborhood. wood screens are carried out throughout the project to bring sufficient light to meditation spaces.
